Asian Countries' May Have Certain Advantages in BOPP Films Production

The production process of Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) film involves extrusion, stretching, and heat treatment. Isotactic polypropylene is melted in an extruder, formed into a film, and cooled down. The film then undergoes machine-direction stretching to align the polymer chains and reduce thickness. Transverse-direction stretching follows to further enhance mechanical properties and decrease thickness. Thickness is measured and either one or two sides of the film are treated for surface modification. Finally, the film is slitted and winded for further use. This process results in the production of BOPP film with improved strength and versatility.

The final product must adhere to several key metrics. This includes maintaining specific density and thickness parameters to ensure consistent performance. The film's modulus of elasticity, elongation at break, and tensile strength are critical factors in determining its flexibility and durability. Additionally, the film's haze (opacity) and gloss (glittering appearance) are important for aesthetic purposes. The friction coefficient between films and metal influences the ease of handling and compatibility with packaging machinery. Seal strength and the °C value are crucial for determining the effectiveness of heat sealing.

Lastly, temperature stability, particularly in terms of heat shrinkage, is essential for maintaining the film's integrity during various temperature conditions such as printing or coating. The film consists of at least three layers, with the middle layer being the thickest and responsible for mechanical properties, while the two outer layers contribute different properties, such as heat sealing capabilities.

The production technologies of BOPP film manufacturers in different countries may be different, which involves differences in equipment, resins, production processes, etc. Some Asian countries may have certain advantages in BOPP film production, including China, India, South Korea and Japan. These countries have strong strengths in plastic processing and chemical industries, possess advanced production equipment and technology, and may have certain advantages in resins and addictives supply chains and production efficiency. In addition, some Asian countries may also be able to offer BOPP film products at relatively more competitive prices.

However, BOPP film manufacturers around the world are constantly innovating technology and improving production efficiency, so the differences in production technology between different countries may be gradually narrowing.
